To upload leads to a campaign you need to be on an Administrator account, or have the campaign administration permission.

Uploading leads to a campaign is probably the most important part of any campaign. You can set up the perfect campaign, but if it doesn't have any leads it isn't going to do you much good. When you click Upload leads you are prompted to select the file that contains your leads.

This article will give a brief overview of the upload process and some of the typical pitfalls that can occur when trying to upload leads. For a detailed breakdown of every option in the upload menu you can consult the following article.

Understanding the Match fields page

When you have selected the document with your leads that you wish to upload you are greeted with the Match fields page.

On this page you will see a box for each of the columns in the document you upload. If you have uploaded leads previously with a similarly formatted document then the system will already know what field to match each column to. In the above example you can see all the boxes with green checkmarks already have a field to put their data into.

If you want to change the field the data goes into you can simply choose a different field, or select "No import" if you dont wish to add the data from a specific column to your leads in Adversus. In the example below the phone data is changed to be placed in the "Phone number" field, and the Mobile data is excluded from the upload.

Understanding your options on the left

On the left of the screen you get 5 different options on how to handle your leads.

Field groups

If you use field groups this lets you pick which fields should be available to put data into. You can read more about field groups in this article: Field groups: How to create fields hidden for users

Add to contact pool

When you upload a lead, you also create a contact to serve as the foundation. The contact holds most of the data of the Lead, and each contact is placed into a contact pool. The campaign will have a default contact pool set in the general settings, but if you want this upload to place the contacts in a different pool you can select it here.

For more information about the difference between leads and contacts you can read this article: What's the difference between leads and contacts?

Duplicate checking and Match phone fields

These 2 are tightly intertwined, they govern how the upload checks for duplicates to ensure that you don't accidentally upload a lead you already have in the system. You can read more about how it works in step 5 of the article: Upload leads to a campaign

Insert into campaign

By default the upload is of course made to the campaign that you clicked upload leads on, but if you want to change what campaign you upload the leads to you can select a different campaign here.

FAQ

The insert leads into campaign button is pale and I can't click it.

If your Insert leads into campaign is pale or greyed out, and not clickable, that means you have made some error in your field assignment.

The most common error is selecting the same destination field for 2 or more of your columns. For example if you have 2 columns in your document with phone numbers, its important that you don't select the same phone number field as destination for both fields.

Look for the boxes that have a yellow border, these are the columns that the system detect issues with. In this example I chose the same phone number field as the destination for the data from both the "Phone" column and the "Mobile" column.

So make sure to check that all the columns have their own field destination.

I'm using the uploads to enrich leads, but not all the leads are getting enriched?

If you are using your upload to enrich leads with new data, as you can read about in this article: Enriching existing contacts.

You need to be aware that the enrichment only applies to contacts in the specific contact pool you are uploading the contacts to. So if the contacts you wish to enrich are split across multiple contact pools, then you need to make the upload to each contact pool to enrich them all.
