Make a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network private in Windows

Written by Christoffer

Make sure Windows allows network connections to Adversus' servers.

Windows 11

When you first connect to a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network in Windows 11, it's set to public by default. This will greatly limit the network capabilities of web applications like Adversus and will most likely result in audio loss during calls.

  • Public network: Use this for networks you generally don't trust. You should use this in most cases, but please be advised that Adversus most likely will not work as expected unless you manually allow traffic to our servers.

  • Private network: Your PC will allow incoming connections and outgoing network traffic on a wider range of ports. Unless you manually allow Adversus' servers in the Windows Firewall, this is the recommended setting for allowing the needed connections to Adversus

Notice: If you know how to allow traffic to certain IP addresses and port ranges, you can find the needed information here.

Change your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection to public or private

  1. Select Start, then type settings. Select Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi.

  2. On the Wi-Fi settings screen, select Manage known networks, and select the network you're connected to.

  3. On the Wi-Fi network screen, under Network profile type, select Public or Private (Recommended for Adversus).

Windows 10

When you first connect to a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network, you can set it as public or private. If you don't know how to manually allow traffic to certain IP addresses and port ranges, it is recommended to select private.
